The Power of Good Leadership

The last time I talked about leadership, I defined it simply as “influence”, I will be running a series on the “power of good leadership” please stay tuned.
The first lesson we must learn on good leadership is that broad leadership is built from appreciable deep character. An infrastructure of great character is essential to support great conduct. The trust and environment of our followers will be parallel to the level of our own
character (Booker T. Washington agreed with this ideology). This implies that even if you have the ‘magic’ of influence, if you lack great character, it’s only a matter of time and everyone in the team will be subject to the toxicity of your uncultured attitude and character. So, if your sales team is super productive and your bribe taking character is super high, then it’s only a matter of time that your bribery character will influence the entire team and get it to nose-dive into non-performance and then losses for the organization. X-raying the character and attitude of team leaders more often than not makes for good leadership character sustenance.
If you disagree, please let me know why.

The power of good leadership 2

We really can’t talk of leadership without talking of “failure”. Leadership failurecomes when leaders thought though rightly and never acted or when they acted without thinking; a good leader must breach this gap and understand that to not fail, he must think appropriately and act swiftly.

Warren G. Bennis said that Leadership can also be seen as the capacity to translate vision into reality, the whole essence of leadership is to influence people to obey you to achieve that common goal which could be to attain the organizational ‘vision’.

In trying to influence, leaders must be close enough to their team but far enough ahead to motivate them. Most leaders learn the hard way that leadership isn’t merely having a vision; anyone can dream. Good and effective leadership is knowing how to lay down the action steps for yourself and your team and therefore your organization so that vision can be realized; this requires practical knowledge and understanding of the process of creating the strategies that would make the vision a reality.

Let’s not fret it, people can’t be managed, they can only be led, People don’t want to be managed, organized, tagged or filed, that’s what youdo with things, people are dynamic and must be ledthrough love and relationship, this love and relationship enthrones the power of good leadership

According to Grace Murray Hopper, Admiral US Navy (retired), “you manage things but you lead people”
